دکتر رضا زارعی فارق التحصیل رشته پزشکی عمومی از دانشگاه مشهد است. رشته تخصصی چشم پزشکی را در دانشگاه تهران به پایان رسانید. سپس به عنوان استادیار در دپارتمان چشم پزشکی تهران شروع به کار نمود و در طی مراحل دانشگاهی به درجه استاد رسید.
ابتدا در بیمارستان فارابی مسئول بخش اورژانس بیمارستان فارابی بود پس از گرفتن تخصص فوق تخصص قرنیه در بخش گلوکوم بیمارستان فارابی مشغول خدمت شدند و سپس از دانشگاه UCLA آمریکا فوق تخصص گلوکوم گرفتند… تحقیقات و تدریس وی در زمینه پیوند قرنیه- گلوکوم روش های جدید آب مروارید و بیماری های سطح چشم و اصلاح عیوب انکساری است.
